      hi guys
      As the title says i'm looking to buy a lathe got about £800 towards it so what would you recommend going to use it for end caps and for turning brass/ali so whats the best one to go for

      Hi Andy,
      try to get hold of a myford  ML7 OR SUPER 7, try ebay they are often on there,they do come up at that sort of money and are without a doubt the best for our kind of work,with plenty of spares around as you will see on ebay.

      Myford is a great hobby workshop machine!
      The South Bend 9A is another great lathe that comes up for sale in your area.

      I know I have a southbend which I was given 20 odd years ago,its about a 1935 I rebuilt it hand scrapped the bed,fitted it with a modern motor and have been using it ever since and when I checked the tolerences last year it is still within 2 thou over 48 inches,they just don't make them like that these days.

      Wow! Now that's tight tolerances.
      What model is that?
      I have been looking the an 8"x36" South Bend Junior.
      The new South Bend 8"x36" #1001 lathe has been getting rave reviews on www.practicalmachinist.com/forum
      The price has been slashed, too.

      If you have not got too much space and/or money I would have a look at the Taig lathe (Peatol in the UK) - I find it good for subs. The mini-lathes available from places like Machine Mart have a growing reputation.

      been looking at the myford lates on e-bay nice machines but a little to big for the space i have at the moment have my eye on a nice warco lathe

      A good used South Bend 8" x 36" Junior is small and usually sells for around 450£.
