Yes, it's that time again...my copy of the Association's magazine has just landed with a resounding thump on the doormat! Another thick issue filled with interesting items and articles...well done to Brian Alps and his small team for putting it together for us.

I'm looking forward to settling into my fancy new raiser armchair later on with my magazine and a large scotch...purely medicinal, you understand.

Hope everyone enjoys their copy..thanks Brian!

Well mine didn't arrive this morning, Richard. You would think it would be quicker for me in the North since Brian posted it in Scotland!
    Thanks in advance, Brian.
    Maybe tomorrow?

Hope your magazine arrives today, David...it's a great read. I got comfy with mine after dinner last night, got through two large scotches, and finally went to bed just after midnight, having read it from cover to cover!

And what a superb piece on the life and times of John Darnell, you'd be hard pushed to find a better epitaph than that. Well done, Brian..

Well I was waiting for one magazine and 10 arrived all at once!
Brian had very sensibly packaged them all together. (We give out back issues to new members.)
    That's tonight's reading sorted out.

    A very interesting read.

The John Darnell tribute was particularly moving and impressive. Adding up the numbers of subs he sold in the article comes to 853! He really was one of the worldwide founders of our hobby.

I was also amused to see in the "Jolly Roger" article the flag for my attempt at a U class - ORP Dzik. The flag shows a dog in a harness. Did that mean that they delivered "Guide dogs for the blind"! Seriously it would be nice to know what type of operation it signified?

Thanks again to Brian and all the other contributors for another significant edition.

Re-reading the mag, I was pleased to see Ian's article on his Charlie 2.

It was good to see the low cost, PVC pipe approach being used to very good effect. (Even down to bending PVC pipe for nose and tail cones.)

A £20 sub that works nicely (I have witnessed it several times) has to be good in these recession hit times!

That was a damn good read this month, one of most enjoyable in a while, I think. These low cost boats are amazing, I've never build one yet for £20!

Well I don't think you can do anything for £20 nowadays but certainly less than £200.

Whilst on the subjects of John Darnell and Bernie Wood, I thought you may enjoy seeing this: it's the cover of Marine Modelling Magazine, September 1990, and depicts Bernie's Silver Medal winning HMS Stoic, a much modified Darnell S Class kit.
