The following email was sent to everyone registered on here a few days ago. (If you didn't get one have we got your current email address?)
Hi All,
Another of our occasional messages to our 656 registered users and our 50+ registered members. This one mostly concerns members who are based in the UK or are perhaps planning to visit the UK this summer.
Well, spring is in the air, and you are hopefully planning to come to one or more of the submarine orientated events - but which one?
There is a very complete list in the events section on the Forum. It is worth pointing out that the AMS does not arrange any event other than a stand at the Haydock Park show so we can take an independent view.
Looking at events in terms of:
- central UK location
- a "sub friendly" pond
- likely number of participants
On this basis the Bournville Dive-Ins and the Norwich sub weekend probably come out tops. Don't forget other events though if they are close to where you live.
You will get an idea of what to expect if you have a look at the Photos of Events section in the Forum.
PLEASE before you set off on a long journey DO check with the organisers that the event is actually on.
PLEASE also show your gratitude to the organising body. They have spent time and trouble arranging the event at no cost to you. All they ask is that you bring and sail some model subs. Crash dives (intentional or unintentional) can add to the entertainment!
A couple of other requests.
(a) Exhibit your models at Haydock Park this year? We book a stand at this show every year and it is one of the only opportunities to exhibit your pride and joy to modellers and the general public on a "subs only" stand. You need to be a registered member for this, not least because I need to know where to post your (free) tickets!
(b) We are always looking for contributors, moderators and admins for this Forum. If you build and sail model subs and want to tell people about it, then let us know.
After all those months in "the shed" I am looking forward to the next season and the chance to chat with fellow sub enthusiasts.
David Forrest
PS For those new to this hobby. We are often best identified at the pond by our models. I will let you know what I am taking a bit later on when I've thrown them together!
