    Hi Richard

I have a very soft spot for Sandown this is were I was introduced to radio controlled modelling when I was very young
I can remember my dad saying come on I got a surprise for you we are going out Sandown is only 2 miles away from were we live so of we went this might be 1980 or there about I went back to Sandown in 1983 and went every year both day in most cases until it finished in 2006
Great time armed with my pocket money and me and my DAD buying 16 gallons of glow fuel from southern model craft to keep us going all year .
They were the days (rained a lot).

    All the best geof

Same as that Geoff, we'd be there year after year with a sub or two. It used to be a great show...weather permitting, of course!

When I think about how long I went to Sandown and what I have seen in those 23 years and the advances in modelling makes my mind boggle
    Helicopters could only just fly
Electric flight aircraft that could just about could do one circuit before landing
The noise was so loud from the ic planes now so much quieter
Graupner bringing out the hydro speed boat (which I have now got) and the portofino
Submarine development when I first went there when the pool was just out side the doors leading to the control line I only sore one or two subs but by the end there was a very good turn out. We were always there when the subs were on I can remember standing in the horse shape out building were a lot of subs and boat were and you could see the pond then suddenly a U-boat conning tower just appears from underwater then just disappearing again you could not see anything else due to the angle I was standing and reflection of the water fantastic
The development of the WTC and the detail on marine models in general just got better as the years went by
I can remember the first helicopter to fly up side down the first gas turbine to fly there
And watching Hanno prettner do a night flight in total darkness one evening

    All the best geof
