    Hello members,
I have been working on the design and building methods for the USS Holland for about 2 years now and finally starting to machine parts.
The hull will be metal spun out of 260 casing brass and all of the fittings will be lost-wax cast in 342 brass.
I have all of the cad drawings required to produce all of the parts to factory specifications.
I am building 6 kits and 3 are already spoken for.
This is not a profiting project but a labor of love.
I am also designing a Jules Verne style amphibious steam-propelled screw-drive vehicle.
I am posting some images and any constructive advice is very welcome.
    Thanks,
    Giovanni

i'm so envious of your model
I started to model in CAD the prototype holland about 18 months ago but ran out of info. had to invent a lot based on contemporary motors etc.. where did you get all the detail to work from?

    Hi Vinnie,
I was very fortunate to be associated with Gary McCue, the USS Holland historian.
He works with General Dynamics and is a software specialist.
I was able to get many original drawings and photos of the Holland from him.
I have a very large archive now.
I have decided to build the main hull out of hardened aluminum.
It will be metal spun from 6161 aluminum sheet in 4 sections and then tig welded together.
The rest of the parts will be made as previously planned.
This will make the submarine much lighter and easier to launch at the pool.
The hull will be anodized in a black finish.
The hull will be installed in a rotating fixture and the bottom access hatch will be laser cut, along with the other openings on the hull.
The inside of the hatch will be laser printed with the model serial number and I.D.
and the hull flush rivets and hull sheet seams will be laser printed, as well.
I have all of the cad drawings to have this done.
The previous drawing here has the incorrect hull seams. They are longitudel.
