Los Angeles (MMB) build log Empty Los Angeles (MMB) build log

    Post  rnli12 Sat Jan 05, 2013 7:55 pm

    Hi All,

Thought I would start a new thread off for my LA Class from MMB.

I have atached a few pics before I start the build to demonstrate the high standard of moulding. The WTC is being made for me.

Any comments welcomed, help or guidance. Likely to a long build as I am away alot. I have built the Robbe U47 and a few bespoke subs but looking to correct all previous mistakes in this one! Best regards.... Rich

Rich, one thing I would advise you think about, and that's the sail. Mine was so heavy and the fibreglass so thick, I scratchbuilt a totally new one from styrene for mine. I think you'll have stability problems if you use the one supplied, unless Mark has changed things.

    Thanks Rich,

I have weighed the fin, scopes and hydroplanes at @ 3 ounces so will keep my eye on top weight as I go along.

That's a lot of difference to what mine weighed, Rich..the sail alone weighed in more than that, looks like Mark done some alterations.

    Hi Marius,

What I have been told is the the fin(conning tower) is 1/72nd scale and the hull around 1/87?th I think, there seems to be some history surrounding this moulding, its all GRP except the fittings which are resin based.

Overall I am very please with it.

    Hi,

Have put the boat on hold as I was hoping for the dive gear module to be built, alas never appeared so havent progressed any further.

So will put the boat up for sale as the previous photos.

    Regards,
